How Easy Is It To Get A Government Grant?

These days, the government provides a number of possibilities for those people who need financial funding for a project or venture, which they are unable to front up with themselves. Interestingly, whilst the government enjoys taxing the general public in whatever realm they possibly can - they also seem to be readily interested in giving away a fraction of this money for community enhancing projects.

The question of course is - "how can I get my hands on a government grant?". Additionally, is the hassle of applying, writing a proposal, and then waiting - worth it in the end? The answer, surprisingly, is that it is. Depending obviously on what your purpose is for requesting a grant, and how many other community organizations or people are applying for the same grant as you - you might even have a 'high" chance of getting the grant awarded to you.

It's All In The Proposal

Just as business plans can make or break a business idea - the proposal you draft up for a government grant is basically the 1 way you are able to impress the authorities and convince them that your project / cause is worthwhile. Obviously, this is harder than it sounds.

Here are some general guidelines though to assist you in the drafting process:

1. Be Honest:

Be completely upfront and honest about your situation, and about the project that you would put the money towards. If you are requesting a government grant so that you can attend college and further your education - provide information about your current finances, the reasons you want to go to university, the benefits this could have to society in the long run, and the reasons why you should receive this grant instead of other people.

Of course, this will require you to forgive your humbleness for a moment, and possibly look at yourself in a positive light. This is ok for a government grant application - and you certainly should go out of your way to show the positive points of the application.

2. Be Relevant:

There are a huge number of reasons why you could receive a government grant - but one of the biggest mistakes people make is applying for the wrong grant. Make sure that the one you do end up applying for is actually a valid grant for your project!
