Imagine a small community, where the only money coming in and out was the result of tourists visiting the area, or government infrastructure spending. Indeed, this would be a very small, independent village - perhaps located in the rural areas of America - or off the long highway to nowhere.
If this is the case, and you are needing money for a particular project - a government grant may be an exceptional idea. Basically, the idea behind government grants is that you are able to apply for a bulk sum of money, which - if you are accepted for the payout - you do not need to pay back. Often, these grants are given out on a discretionary basis for those who will contribute to society in a positive manner.
When it comes to small towns, government grants are particularly important - especially in this respect. So, if you are from a small town, or are generally in need of a cash grant for a special purpose - read on, because before you know it - you could be being interviewed by your local government office!
Often, small towns have less of a focus on large, corporate project ideas - and instead rely more on the small, community based and benefiting projects. Things such as "school development" or "community development" will probably be given priority here, as these small communities don't receive much independent funding as it is. Hence, the overall effect of this is that it provides townships with an injection of capital, whilst reducing the burden on these groups of people.
Think about it. Imagine that a community group wants to buy new soccer goals and balls for their community. If government grants did not exist - this cash would flow out of the community to a corporate entity - and would likely never be seen again. Instead of this happening, a community could apply for a government grant and have the cost of these new items gifted to them. Hence, the items could be acquired, without the need to expend a huge amount of personal wealth from the area.
Everyone wins in this situation. The government still gets part of the money back, because of the taxes which will be paid on the equipment. However, the community benefits in the fact they are not financially obstructed by the transaction.
